The wheels are turning on the sequel to We Are Mars

It isn’t always easy to begin the writing process after a long hiatus. That is why I decided to not leave too much time between We Are Mars and it’s follow-up – Storm At Dawn. I have a good feel for where I’ve left off at the end of We Are Mars, so now is the time to jump back in and get the show on the road again.

But with so much effort to edit, polish and publish the first book, one’s creative reserves can feel quite depleted. I also find the process of doing all the indie author/publisher marketing drive quite distracting. I ramped up the book/author Twitter account in less than a month – almost 1000 followers in 3 weeks is a lot of time on Twitter! Which doesn’t leave much time to write. But that’s okay, because I have now reached a small plateau in the social marketing and in this brief calm before the storm, I will jot ideas down in my ‘beatsheets’ and establish the threads of Storm At Dawn, the character arcs, the action sequences, the plot twists, and more. I know this is only the beginning of the drafting phase, but everything else comes so quickly from these humble beginnings. I feel a sense of accomplishment, as I look forward along the project scope and see how I’ve already laid out a sizeable chunk of the narrative. I can settle into the word-churn a little easier knowing I have the backbones to rest the details on.

So where do I go from here? Simple, really. Dedicate about 2 hours a day to building out each chapter in short bullets, add some detail and voila- first draft!

You can expect more adventure, more drama and more death in Storm At Dawn. The throttle will be out all the way, the pace of the story hurling you towards its stunning conclusion.

You’re welcome!

[…] I love my book as much today as I did the day I completed my story outline. I think it is a great read with characters everyone can relate to. The strong ones, the damaged ones, the quiet ones, the exciting ones. The story weaves a tantalising thread through some irresistible tension, bringing the reader to some intriguing and unexpected hooks. My readers, so far, have loved the easy readability, the pace and the plot. And I love the feedback. Keep it coming guys – you’re helping me write the next memorable instalment – Storm At Dawn. […]
